Virtual exhibition: Street art – Graffiti in Göttingen

As part of the virtual exhibition, the images in the categories on the pages of the law firm Sven Adam change irregularly.

Street art – Graffiti in Göttingen

This virtual exhibition documents special graffiti on two walls in Göttingen, whose content and artistic power speak for themselves.

The photographer is unknown. The graffiti photos were taken by Göttingen-based photographer and web designer Katrin Raabe and published on December 25, 2020. The text accompanying the images 's website Katrin Raabe:

was discovered on two (previously quite dilapidated) walls near the Göttingen city wall elaborate graffiti . The artistic execution, which addresses, among other things, the theme of "sea rescue," is reminiscent of the British street artist Banksy.

According to the Göttinger Tageblatt, the police "assume, based on the content, that this was a politically motivated protest. The State Security Department has opened an investigation for property damage."

The police also appealed for witnesses to come forward via Facebook: "Our investigative service has initiated proceedings for property damage and is currently seeking information about who created the graffiti."

However, the comments under the post were predominantly positive. Here are some quotes: "This is the most beautiful piece of vandalism I've ever seen. Nevertheless, it's still vandalism. Unfortunately." – "This is more artistically valuable than vandalism." – "Seriously?? Vandalism? The pictures are absolutely amazing!!!"

The images and the controversy surrounding the absurd question of whether it constitutes property damage have, however, become the subject of reporting by TAZ Nord (article by Reimar Paul from 01.01.2021), the Göttinger Tageblatt (article by Michael Brakemeier from 02.01.2021) and NDR (report by Hallo Niedersachsen from 04.01.2021).
